This course introduces basic analytical techniques to understand the state-of-the-art theoretical physics.
 
授業内容 Course Content
This course is divided to five subjects: quantum field theory, astrophysics, statistical physics, condensed matter physics, and computational physics.
The two or three times of lectures are carried out for each subject.
In each time of the class, after introducing the key points of the subject,
learners solve some exercises to deepen learner's understanding.
 
授業計画 Course Planning
As a review, rereading the notebook and resolving the exercises will take about 4 hours every week.

1. Quantum field theory I: Harmonic oscillators, Special relativity, and Analytical mechanics of fields (Kasuya)
2. Quantum field theory II: Quantization of a real scalar field (Kasuya)
3. Quantum field theory III: Complex scalar field and conserved charges (Kasuya)
4. Astrophysics I: Stellar internal structure (Nagasawa)
5. Astrophysics II: General relativistic effects (Nagasawa)
6. Astrophysics III: Standard cosmology (Nagasawa)
7.Statistical physics I: Statistical properties of random walks and their application to condensed matter physics (Chikyu)
8. Statistical physics II: Sum over states in statistical mechanics and counting problems with conditions (Chikyu)
9. Statistical physics III: Renormalization and scaling (Chikyu)
10. Condensed matter physics I: Bose-Einstein condensation (Kimura)
11. Condensed matter physics II: Second quantization (Kimura)
12. Condensed matter physics III: Quantum states of photons (Kimura)
13. Computational Physics I: Numerical solution and visualization of equations of motion (Kawahigashi)
14. Computational Physics II: Application to many body systems and molecular dynamics (Kawahigashi)

This class is conducted in a practice form.
 
評価方法 Evaluation Method
Scholastic evaluation is determined based on the answers of the exercises in each time.
 
オフィスアワー Office Hour (s)
Questions are always accepted after class.
In addition, professors who accept questions (unless a meeting is held)
are designated as follows:
Kasuya during lunch break on Tuesdays at 2-225,
Nagasawa in the third lecture on Fridays at 2-223 or 6-227,
Chikyu in the third or fourth lecture on Tuesdays at 2-222,
Kimura during lunch break and in the fifth lecture on weekdays at 6-212,
Kawahigashi during lunch break on weekdays at 6-230.
